Metal Office Cabinets
Hi, I work in an office. As soon as i touch any metal filing cabinet, I egt an electric shok in my fingers.?
I tried wearing no jewelry at all on my hands and fingers, but to no avail. what is this and what can i do about it?
As you walk in the office you generate small amounts of electricity as your feet move on the floor. You body acts as a capacitor and discharges once you touch a metal object that is grounded.
Another but more serious possible problem is that your electrical outlets have a loose neutral or absence of a proper ground.
Shoes with a thicker rubber sole will prevent the static. Rubber mats will help in your main work area. If you do not believe this to be static a simple plug in tester will verify if the grounds and neutrals are good in your electrical outlests.
